Concentrated Calories

Concentrated Calories

A study from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) finds that American waistlines are still involved in a rapidly expanding movement, not caused by too much exercise, or not enough calories. What is the problem? General wisdom says that we are eating too much and not exercising enough. That analysis is not entirely accurate. While it is true that people gain weight when they eat more calories then they burn, this is not necessarily because there is too large a volume of food on their plates. Instead the calories may simply be too concentrated! Many people are actually not eating enough of a volume of food and yet are still gaining unwanted weight!

The trick to maintaining an optimal weight is learning to eat Starch-Smart®. We have seen many obese people lose tremendous amounts of weight eating quantities of foods they found unbelievable. Imagine the surprise of an over-weight person when they find out that they are not eating enough food and that they should start eating MORE in order to lose weight! It can bring a tear of joy to their eyes! A case in point is our friend, and Dr. Carney's patient, Mike Crockett who topped the scales at over 570 lbs before adopting the Starch-Smart® System. Hear what Mike had to say in his testimony on the DrCarney.com web site:

"Within the first week, I had lunch with Dr. Carney and her husband Sean, and they showed me the foods that I would be eating and what they will do for me. The plates they fixed for me were piled high with yams, lentils, quinoa, squashes, and greens. My first incredulous thought was, "I'm going to lose weight eating all this much quantity?!" These portions were ridiculously LARGE and yet, it not only worked GREAT but I'm STILL eating this way, three times a day. This is the only diet in the world that you can eat this much three times a day and still lose weight."

Mike is now a 400 lb guy with a ways to go but also an incredible sense of accomplishment! The weight loss principle involved is to eat low on the scale of calorie concentration and eat high on the scale of dilute calories. While we are on that subject might we recommend the DVD Calorie Density by Jeff Novick, MS, RD, LD, LN. Jeff's presentations are about as good as it gets when it comes to understanding how the concentration of the calories and not the volume of food on the plate determines weight loss or gain.
